Raptors Rapture's Second Annual NCCA Championship Week Blog: Day One Introduction

March always has held a special place in my basketball fandom despite being an NBA fan. From my own high school basketball playoff experiences (two Quarterfinal appearances in for Canada’s version of the state tournament) to watching nearly every hour of March Madness this month has long been my favorite month on the basketball calendar.

Some more reasons why March is king:

  • How awesome is Senior Night? Probably one of the most underrated traditions in basketball, some Senior Nights happen in February, but still.
  • In addition to that point there is just something special about watching people play what might be their last basketball game that the NBA can not compare with. Sure seeing the tears at the end of the game can get awkward, but the raw emotion of tournament time is incomparable.
  • The Big East Conference Tournament. Home of some of the most memorable non-NCAA tournament moments as of late (UCONN-Syracuse 6OT classic, Kemba’s step back against Pitt) and hosted at MSG the Big East Tournament always brings a mix of NBA prospects, solid match ups, and classic moments that usually take over Championship Week.
  • The mid-major conference tournaments. This weekend treated us to Illinois State’s run in the MVC Tournament, beating sexy sleeper team (suck it Grantland) Wichita State and then taking the final against top 25 Creighton into Overtime before running out of gas. In the OVC Tournament another sleeper tournament team was given a scare as Tennessee State gave Murray State a run for their money in a 54-52 classic. These teams generally only get in with conference championships, preventing the strategic tanking you sometimes see in the major conference tournaments.
  • Most games are on in the middle of the day: Which is awesome for a lazy college student like myself.
  • I probably don’t need to tell you how awesome the NCAA Tournament is.

With that being said Raptors Rapture is going to break down as much of Championship Week as humanly possible (this is a one man blog after all) expect.

  • Live blogs
  • Highlights
  • Game previews
  • NBA Prospect Breakdowns
  • And anything else I can come up with

It is a great time to be a hoops addict, and Raptors Rapture will have your fix daily. Stay posted.
