The b-ball press is abuzz with “where is Steve Nash playing next season?” articles, which is what happens when there’s a drought of trades leading up to Draft Night. That aside, Nash’s destination is of considerable interest, and not just because he’s easily the best baller this country has ever produced. Nash has always improved his teammates wherever he’s played, and one would think the Raps would be thrilled at the thought of adding him to their youthful roster. My guess is that he would add 5 points per game onto Andrea’s scoring average, and be of immense benefit to Jonas V. The question then becomes: what does Steve need to hear from BC in order to sign on?
My wife, who’s an astute and passionate Raps fan, offered a compelling thought when we were discussing this. She said “Put him in charge of the Raptors Foundation, immediately”. Her point was that Nash is so committed to good works that the chance to throw himself into the deep end of a major child-focused charity would be impossible for him to turn down, and something no other team would offer. It’s a bloody brilliant insight, actually.
If I see Colangelo tomorrow night at the Draft party, or Matt Devlin, I’ll throw this thought at them. Or my wife can, as she’ll be with me.
Will Harrison Barnes still be on the board at #8? How about Damian Lillard? Those are my choices – what say you?
