Several sources, including Marc Stein of ESPN, are writing that the deal is done between the Toronto Raptors and Memphis. While all details aren’t finalized, particularly regarding a third team, the gist of the deal is this: Raps trade Jose Calderon and Ed Davis for Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddidi. Calderon would then be pushed on to the putative third team, which may be Detroit.
7:38 – Deal confirmed; awaiting NBA blessing.
The Raps aren’t likely to disclose anything; Bryan Colangelo is notoriously close-mouthed. However, someone has to be chatting freely, as there are a lot of details being splashed around for what is at this moment an unofficial trade.
Here’s an easy clue: if Jose and Ed aren’t in the lineup against the Hawks, the deal is on.
Update: I tried this trade on the Machine and it works, even though the Raps take back an additional almost $ 5M in salary. For that privilege, we get two players whose combined PER is 21.9. Ed and Jose are a combined 37.6. The Machine projects we lose 6 games with this trade, and Memphis gains 6. I’m speechless.
