With considerable astonishment, I note that the votes in favour of renaming the Toronto Raptors were very one-sided. Specifically, the name “Huskies” garnered more support than all the other choices combined. While retaining the Raptors name was in second place, it was, as they say at the racetrack, a bad second. So, all hail the rebirth of the Toronto Huskies, and let’s get busy with new team colours and a spiffy logo.
Your Correspondent has a reasonable colour-matching sense, but no artistic ability whatsoever. Therefore I’m limiting myself to a suggestion of the Huskies’ colours, namely purple, red and silver. Here’s why: purple is under-utilized in sports, but offers drama and a contrast to the navy blue of the Maple Leafs; red is Canada’s colour (along with white, I know, but I’m trying to steer clear of too much Raps’ hangover); and silver is an elegant trim which provides some relief for the eye after the strong colours of red and purple.
If I were designing a logo, I’d steer clear of the lone-wolf motif already in use by Minnesota, and work on something like a team of huskies pulling a basketball on a sled. But don’t let that limit you. Please submit a colour scheme and/or a logo within 2 weeks, and I’ll feature the best entries.
