New POLL – Most desireable free agent for Raps to pursue

Rapture Nation, while the free agent season hasn’t officially begun yet, the jockeying for position is well underway. Taking as my lead-in a list of the Top Ten free agents this summer, I’m going to list four UFAs, and ask you to pick one. I’m not offering Kyle Lowry as an option; we all want him back. Nor am I adding Dirk Nowitzki, as I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in Hell he’ll leave Dallas. I’m looking at the best of those who may be interested in a competitive and youthful Toronto Raptors team.

Finally, let’s ignore money/salary cap issues with this poll, and just dream a little. If you want to make a case for your choice, please add your views in the Comments.

Which Unrestricted Free Agent [UFA] should the Raps "wine & dine" most aggressively?

  • Luol Deng (do-it-all swingman has lots left in tank, & wants to win) (53%, 149 Votes)
  • Marcin Gortat (flourished in Washington as starter - was it just a "contract year"? (19%, 52 Votes)
  • Pau Gasol (veteran centre with glittering career would like to add 1 more title) (15%, 42 Votes)
  • Lance Stephenson (talented swingman with occasional brain cramps - worth the risk?) (13%, 38 Votes)

Total Voters: 281

If Toronto Draft a SF like Jerami Grant, Kj Mcdaniel or Cleanthony Early i really think we should get Loul Deng . He could mentor and teach the rookie and help him become a better defender and if u think about it, its making rookie/prospect development go that much faster. So we get a great player like Deng for the present and we get a productive prospect for the future

      Hi Harun:
It’s hard to imagine how getting Deng could hurt our team’s development. By all accounts, he’s a quality guy. I suspect he’d like to start – whose spot would he take? I can’t imagine the Raps would want to pony up $30M/3 for a 6th man. I guess we’ll see.

  • Take it in

Start deng over Ross any day you get more length defence and experience don’t fall in love with every player on the team deng will not over shadow Ross they not the same type of player Ross could really learn from deng

      Hi Tii:
Start Deng over Ross? Maybe. What’s good about Deng is he can play either SG or SF comfortably, and even PF in a small lineup. I love versatile players.
If Deng accepted the role of wise veteran, he would be hugely valuable to Ross and others.

Deng costs too much and when he gets cold, he’s frozen on offense. Gortat provides a more viable need: a true backup centre who can start if need be AND who could slide to the PF to give Amir relief. Stephenson is also viable as he would give Toronto that defensive edge. As for Gasol, no… Just no.

      Hi ShadowXL:
Can you explain why you so dislike the idea of Pau Gasol as a Rap? A long answer would be read with interest.
