Why the Toronto Raptors should get involved in the Timberwolves, Cavs deal

I believe the Toronto Raptors have a chance at becoming involved in the Kevin Love trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Flip Saunders the Coach and GM for the Minnesota Timberwolves was apparently more interested in Klay Thompson than Andrew Wiggins (Is he crazy???), so perhaps he would be more enticed by Terrence Ross than Wiggins. The current deal to bring Kevin Love to Cleveland sends Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and 1st round draft picks to Minnesota. If the Raptors became a third team involved I could see the trade looking something more like this:

Cleveland receives: Kevin Love

Minnesota receives: Anthony Bennett, Cleveland’s 2015 and ’16 1st round  picks, Terrence Ross (maybe Landry Fields if they are willing)

Toronto receives: Andrew Wiggins

Why would I suggest a trade to replace Ross with Wiggins? Is this suggestion purely because Wiggins is Canadian? I can assure you my thoughts on this don’t even take into account Wiggins being Canadian. Ross did show moments of brilliance, but also flashes of indifference (specifically on the defensive end) last season. Although Ross may have a big upside, I believe Andrew Wiggins ceiling is even higher. Wiggins, at this point in his young career, seems to have better defensive tools and mindset than Ross.

Why Minnesota may consider this deal purely comes down to Flip Saunders and his love for 3 point shooters. Ross is easily a better 3 point threat than Wiggins at this point in his career, and did attempt more 3 pointers than 2 pointers last season. He is young and athletic, much like Wiggins, but perhaps more ready to make an impact on the offensive end right now. Landry Fields might be an interesting piece to include on the last year of his deal as a trade chip as the trade deadline during the season approaches. Fields may also flourish if given the opportunity at a fresh start as that certainly is not going to happen in Toronto at this point.

Cleveland is still providing the same assets in this trade, so I don’t see any reason for them to object. Cleveland may be more interested in taking a pick from Toronto for getting involved, or perhaps adding Landry Fields instead of shipping him to Minnesota (but I doubt that one). Either way I believe this would be a win-win scenario for all teams involved.
