With the deadline fast approaching there are still deals to be made. The Toronto Raptors need a swingman and Bogdanovic can solve this issue.

Great general managers in the NBA never rest on their laurels after a big trade. Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri pulled off a huge trade by adding Serge Ibaka to the roster. Yet, the team still needs some fine tuning. Losing Terrence Ross to the Orlando Magic means we need to acquire a wing player to replace him.

Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal times reported that the Raptors are still tying to pursue a swingman before the deadline. The trade proposal I have come up with will, I believe, benefit both teams involved.

Here’s the Trade

Why the Raptors like this trade

The Raptors get a swingman who is entering his prime and is averaging career highs in points, assists and rebounds. He is a respectable three-point shooter, averaging 37% for his career. The Raptors badly need shooting from deep and Bogdanovic’s jumper is respected by defenders. I expect that a DeMar DeRozan drive, which attracts double teams will lead to open 3’s for Bogdanovic who will knock them down.

More importantly, at 6 foot 8 he has great length and size for a wing player. He would be a wonderful weapon off the Toronto bench. With his size, he can switch onto many players and this offers more versatility on both ends of the floor.

Why Brooklyn Likes this Trade

Put simply, the Brooklyn Nets do not have much of a future ahead of them. In the now infamous Kevin Garnett trade, the Nets traded their first round picks to Boston until 2019. This means they are desperate to get first round picks to improve their woeful roster. Brooklyn would get a fine big man in Sullinger who can provide decent play off the bench. The Nets would get 2 picks, a 2018 first round pick and a 2017 second round pick. Getting two picks allows them to inject some fresh talent into their roster. The Nets would be very keen to do this trade.

Conclusions

For both franchises, this is a rare win-win situation in the NBA. The Raptors get some much-needed scoring off the bench. The Nets get a glimmer of hope for the future with their picks. The salaries are compatible for both teams and there are no red flags for this trade.
