]]> This trade is the latest topic of chatter, and seems to have substance, as it’s being mentioned by well-connected sites like SI.com, HOOPSWORLD and ESPN. I’ve cranked up the Trade Machine once again, to see how this might work. There are too many variants to list, so I’ll stick to a few simple possibilities. If the Toronto Raptors trade Andrea Bargnani and Linas Kleiza to the Chicago Bulls for Carlos Boozer, it’s a working deal which projects a gain of 3 wins for the Raps, and a loss of 4 wins for the Bulls. (Yes, teams can trade an injured player. Chicago would simply waive the physical on Kleiza.) If I were Bulls’ coach Tom Thibodeau, I might threaten to hold my breath till I turn blue before I accept this deal. As I suggested in my previous trade rumor post, I can’t think of many players less likely to fit Thibodeau’s defense-first philosophy than AB, and Kleiza is broken. I’d be very surprised if he ever dresses for another NBA game.

Nate Robinson’s name has been tossed into the alleged discussions, so let’s re-do the trade to include Little Nate. AB and John Lucas III (also in reports) for Boozer and Robinson. Yes, it works – but the Raps gain 5 wins, while Chicago loses 11! I think the trade train has just pulled into Crazytown. Can we make a deal that seems barely plausible?

How about the one I suggested for Pau Gasol, which sees Landry Fields joining AB in Chi-town? No, it fails for reasons known only to NBA capologists. However, if we add Nate and Nazr Mohammed in with Boozer, it’s successful. Oddly enough, the trade has the same projected result (Raps +5, Bulls -11).

If there’s a trade that makes sense, I’m too blind to see it. Can anyone else figure out something that benefits both teams? If you do, please let us know in the Comments.
