Raptors president Masai Ujiri said he tried to sign Vince Carter and bring him back to Toronto during the post screening of The Carter Effect documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) yesterday in Toronto.

The Carter Effect documentary screening at The Princess of Wales Theatre in downtown Toronto was the hottest ticket in town yesterday for the 42nd annual film festival.

Many of the Raptors current roster of players were in attendance including the likes of Pascal Siakam, Jakob Poeltl, OG Anunoby and Norman Powell as well as head coach Dwane Casey and president Masai Ujiri.

The film screening also saw the likes of LeBron James in attendance along with Maverick Carter, Drake, former Raptor Chris Bosh and Canadian sprinter Andre De Grasse as well as many more celebrities and musicians.

Following the screening, there was a question and answer period on stage with director Sean Menard, Drake, Maverick Carter and James (who were executive producers of the film) who then brought out Ujiri on stage near the end of the Q and A.

Ujiri spoke about Vince Carter and his impact on the Raptors franchise and the city of Toronto and said that he recently made attempts to sign Carter to bring him back to the Raptors.

He said:

Believe me, we tried.

Raptors broadcaster Michael Grange of Sportsnet also noted that Ujiri said that he wants to bring Carter home at some point.

The 40 year-old Carter signed a one-year deal worth $8 million with the Sacramento Kings over the summer and will act as a mentor to a very young Kings squad

Could we see the Raptors signing a 41 year-old Carter for next season?
