Toronto Raptors: Predicting Delon Wright’s Market
Conclusion
When free agency begins next year, there will be a few teams checking in on the availability of Delon Wright. His length, playmaking ability, and creativity when finishing at the rim make him a target next summer. However, Delon’s age and strength could be an issue for teams that are interested in him for 2019.
With the number of all-stars and proven starters in this free agency class, Delon might not be on a team’s top five or top ten best available point guards this year. Although, he doesn’t have to be a dominant scorer or an all-star to have success with a team. On offense, he actually does most of the playmaking for Toronto when he shares the floor with Lowry and VanVleet. This allows them to play off the ball for three-point shots while still having a lengthy defender on the court.
Toronto will probably be looking to bring him back on a friendly contract and keep their bench core intact, but they should look out for teams who are willing to overpay to give him a larger role. Delon will probably get offers as high as the $8-$10 million dollar range depending on if teams see him as a backup or a starter. This will be one of the many situations that Toronto’s front office will have to handle with CJ Miles and Jonas Valanciunas deciding on their player options. Not to mention, Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard will be unrestricted free agents next summer
