Toronto Raptors: Will C.J. Miles Take A Big Leap Next Season?
Weaknesses
Although a three-point percentage of 36% isn’t bad for most NBA players, it is a huge drop off from 41% the season before. Miles is capable of shooting 7/10 from three just as he is capable of shooting 3/11. The main reason behind some of his bad shooting nights is simply because of the shots that he takes. His reputation as a shooter forces more attention towards him as the game progresses. To my eyes, Miles attempted too many off-balance threes.
Another thing that stood out last year was the number of teams getting Miles to switch on to their best player which usually led to them scoring on that possession. This was something that LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers did frequently during the semi-finals against Toronto. His speed and strength in comparison to other players often leads to him getting caught in a mismatch and either allowing a bucket or fouling once they drive by him.
Miles is not getting all of the blame for the Toronto Raptors defensive collapse during the playoffs last year. Other players needed to do a better job fighting through screens to stay on their man. However, with the number of times players have attacked him off screens, it is a part of his game that he needs to improve on.
