Which Toronto Raptors might participate in All-Star weekend?
Even if the Raptors finish with the best record in the East, Nick Nurse won’t be able to coach the All-Star game due to Toronto finishing first last year and Dwane Casey earning that honor.
It’s early into the season, but Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry have been playing like locks for the All-Star game. The question is more whether they can both get into the starting lineup. Here are some other players who will be considered for a starting spot:
- Kyrie Irving
- Joel Embiid
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
- Victor Oladipo
- Kemba Walker
- John Wall
- Ben Simmons
- Jimmy Butler
Kawhi’s popularity and recently play should earn him a starting role as one of the three frontcourt players. Lowry’s situation will be more tricky with the popularity of Butler and Kyrie. Although Lowry has been the most impressive this season, the fans could push to vote those two in for the two backcourt spots.
We will have to wait and see if Serge Ibaka‘s play as of recently is sustainable, but he might be able to sneak into the bench as one of the last frontcourt players or a wildcard spot. With the coaches deciding on the All-Star benches, the Raptors record could get him into the game.
