A bumper guide to the Toronto Raptors 2020 trade deadline
Who could be traded?
The Raptors have several players that can be added into a trade as bait, it’s just dependant on if the front office is ready to pull the trigger on a move that can make the team better. Talking about moving players isn’t exactly a fun task, especially if the chemistry is as good as it seems.
Maybe it’s wise to point out that everything that follows this up is all hypothetical.
There are several players on expiring contracts too, with Serge Ibaka, Marc Gasol, Fred VanVleet, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson all hitting free agency at the end of the season. If the Raptors are to make a deal, it’s likely that one of their big men will be added in for matching salaries, even if it leaves their frontcourt depth a little thin.
Fred VanVleet will unlikely be part of any deal, one would think. He’s been one of the Raptors’ best players this season and could likely earn himself a nice payday in free agency. Maybe Hollis-Jefferson could be a nice addition to any deal, especially if any team is hungry for a wing defender on the cheap.
Potentially, Norman Powell could be a player packaged into a deal. His contract could prove troublesome past 2021 and, despite his injury, he has been playing the best basketball of his career – strike while the iron is hot, some might say.
Maybe, just maybe, if the right player was available, the Raptors could be willing to part with OG Anunoby. Although, there doesn’t seem to be a player on the market who could necessitate such a strong offer. OG is too good to be included in a deal for Jrue Holiday. However, if Beal was on the market, who knows?
The Raptors are usually tight-lipped on everything anyway, not many leaks get out. It could well end up being a quiet deadline, though.
