Raptors: 3 reasons why team should trade for DeMar DeRozan
No. 3: DeMar DeRozan would turn the Raptors into contenders
The Raptors are at a crossroads in their season. After starting 2-8, it felt like they’d tank the year away, grab a high draft pick and start fresh. By playing in Tampa all season, it felt like there was less pressure to perform, especially since they are the only team in the league that can’t play in their home arena.
However, the tides turned and the Raptors are now in a playoff spot. The team rallied together and is in a great spot heading into the NBA All-Star break.
Now that the team is likely playoff-bound, tanking is out of the question. Instead, they will, more than likely, be active and will want to add to their rotation. Although he makes $28M per season, DeRozan would be a great addition to this roster.
Obviously, the team needs a big man, but DeRozan is currently playing at the 3 or 4 positions with the Spurs this year. Based on his size and talent, he has the ability to be a small-ball forward or a regular guard. His versatility would be a great addition to this roster, as well as his scoring touch, which hasn’t left.
Here’s what the Raptors starting lineup could look like:
- Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, DeMar DeRozan, Pascal Siakam
Although it’s a small lineup, it would provide a ton of scoring and could be a great option for the Raptors. It would bring back the old-school tandem of DeRozan and Lowry with the new-school duo of VanVleet and Siakam.
Obviously, a lot of moving parts would have to happen in order for this to work, but speaking for all Raptors fans right now, we’d love to see it happen.
