3 adjustments the Toronto Raptors need to make in 2022-23

1. Give OG Anunoby a more significant role offensively.

The Raptors’ solid all-around wing is confident in his game, but is also passive offensively. The lack of shots may be fueling the rumors that Anunoby is not happy with his role on the team. Anunoby’s style of play is smooth and effortless, but he wants to be more involved offensively.

Anunoby could be more aggressive, as he took 14.5  shot attempts in 2022. That was fourth-most on the roster. While he could demand the ball more, Nurse has addressed the issue surrounding Anunoby by stating:

"“I just tell him that a lot of times that role thing is usually they’re not getting enough shots, right, and he wants to be more a part of the offense. I certainly can help him with that, I can design plays, I can get him in situations, etcetera, but it’s kind of a working relationship that he’s got to go take some of that."

The Toronto Raptors unlock more shot attempts for OG Anunoby.

One thing missing from the Raptors’ halfcourt offensive sets is creativity. There is little action off the ball to free up shooters or cutters. Getting Anunoby involved by running him off pin downs stepping out to the three-point line or moving to the basket would be helpful to upping OG’s offensive involvement.

Considering Anunoby’s effective field goal was 52.5% and nearly 37% on threes in 2022, the five-year veteran should play a bigger role in Toronto’s offensive plans.

One issue making the shot attempts for Anunoby rise is that this team has five quality starters and hopefully an improved bench. If OG, who is a splendid defender, is in the team’s present and future plans, Nurse needs to find ways to give No. 3 a bigger piece of the shot attempt pie.
