DeRozan’s best days are ahead of him

At the tender age of 26, DeMar has not yet reached the pinnacle of his career. The agreed upon time for an NBA player’s prime is generally in the late 20’s to about 30. DeRozan’s new contract would begin in his 27th year, leaving 3-4 years of high-quality basketball.

There is strong evidence that he is improving every year. His work ethic is well documented and the results are true. With the exception of the 2014-2015 season where he suffered an injury, his numbers in each year have gotten better.

Why does it matter?

He is continually getting better at nearly every facet of the game. His field goal percentage and assist percentage are climbing with his usage percentage as well. These variables trending upwards are a great sign to a great payday.
