DeRozan is a scoring machine

2nd in PPG from the shooting guard position.

2nd in FTM in the NBA.

3rd in FTA in the NBA.

These are the important stats for DeMar DeRozan’s scoring prowess. His elite skill is getting to the free throw line while baiting defenders to fouling him. This allows him to operate freely as most opposing players know about this yet can’t do much about it but get out of the way.

Interestingly enough, his field goal percentage increases as defenders get closer to him while 70.8% of his shots are unassisted. Pretty incredible feat.

Why does it matter?

How often do you hear about teams wanting to have a player they can throw the ball to near the end of a game? DeRozan is that player for Toronto. He averages 2.6 points per game in ‘clutch time’ (less than five minutes to play with a 5 point differential) while shooting 40.5%.
