Top 5 most promising Raptors under the age of 25
By Chris Mckee
No. 4 Fred VanVleet Guard 6-foot Wichita State – Age: 23
VanVleet turned out to be the most pleasant surprise of the 2016-17 season for the Raptors.
The undrafted free agent out of Wichita State had an outstanding college career which included leading the Shockers to the NCAA tournament in all four years of college.
VanVleet shot to national prominence after leading Wichita State to the Final Four during the 2013-14 season and was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year twice (2014, 2016).
Despite an impressive college resume, most scouts felt VanVleet would be too small to compete at the NBA level and passed him by come draft night.
However, those same scouts forgot to measure the size of VanVleet’s heart and court savvy prior to the draft and he has since developed into a solid contributor off the bench for the Raptors.
VanVleet was dominant during his time with the Raptors minor-league affiliate Raptors 905 and took his game to another level once again during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
He averaged 18.8 points per game with five assists out in Las Vegas and appears ready to take that next step and become a full-time NBA player.
