The Toronto Raptors opened their first day of training camp at the University of Victoria. Here are some of the quotes and comments from head coach Dwane Casey after day one of camp.

The first day of Raptors training camp was underway at the beautiful campus of the University of Victoria. The mood was very light with all the players and coaching staff in great spirits after soaking in some of that fresh BC air.

Here are some of the key comments and quotes from the Raptors head coach Dwane Casey following the first day of camp.

Casey praised the city of Victoria and the university for how great the facilities were and their experience so far. He then spoke about how impressed he was with the tempo from his team on day one of training camp.

He said:

"Typical first day; very intense. We’re picking up the mentality of moving the ball and passing the ball. When the balls kicks out to the three-point shooter you gotta make the shot."

Casey then spoke about team leader Kyle Lowry and how he set the tempo for the rest of the team today.

Casey said:

"When you have your best player Lowry diving on the floor for loose balls giving himself up you know you got something good."

One of the big surprises from Casey’s opening day comments was how he spoke about an expanded role this season for Norman Powell. It appears as though Powell will have a legitimate shot to be a starter or at least the teams sixth man.

More from Raptors Rapture

Casey said:

"I think he is ready. This is what young guys have worked their butts off for the last couple of years at 905 and now with us. We always talk about (how) you’re not always pigeonholed in a role. Now his role is bigger."

Casey also spoke the opportunities available for some of the Raptors other young players.

He said:

"Delon Wright, its time for him. Bruno (Caboclo) is gonna get an opportunity. All the young guys have to be ready to step in and step up."
