Will any rookies make the roster?

Although the Toronto Raptors didn’t have any draft picks, they did sign a couple of potential contributors to their Summer League roster. Andrew Rowsey, Rawle Alkins, and Giddy Potts, headline a cast of rookie candidates hoping to make the permanent NBA roster.

Toronto currently has 12 roster spaces accounted for next season, with Fred VanVleet as a virtual lock for the 13th spot. This leaves two hypothetical spots up for grabs, although it is possible the team parts ways with Alfonzo McKinnie or Malachi Richardson if they are blown away by another performance.

The three aforementioned rookies, Rowsey, Alkins, and Potts, are three rookies to keep an eye on.

Andrew Rowsey is a highly experienced senior point guard from Marquette University. Great production during college and elite shooting numbers helped earn him a Summer League invite despite obvious physical limitations.

Rawle Alkins has no such physical limitations. Anyone who watches his highlight film can see why NBA teams would have interest in the athletic specimen out of Arizona. However he went undrafted for a reason, and while his athletic gifts are obvious, equal production has not always followed.

Giddy Potts NBA Scouting Live describes Potts as –  “an athletic, thickly built combo guard that can shoot and score the basketball.”  Sound like anyone on the Raptors current roster? Also out of a small school in Middle Tennessee State, the Fred VanVleet comparisons are easy to make for Potts. Of course, there is only one FVV, but Toronto is hoping to get a similar style player in Potts.
