Morris Peterson (2005-2006): Backup Small Forward/Versatile Wing

Remember earlier when we discussed threes and defense? Say hello to Morris Peterson. Pardon the coach speak, but Morris Peterson is the quintessential “glue guy” and someone who makes everyone around him better.

He, like Parker, is not one of the 12 best players to wear a Raptor uniform, but the goal of this roster is to win games and Peterson can help this team on both sides of the ball.

Peterson’s best season came in 2005-2006 when he averaged 16.8 points on above average efficiency. Peterson was the arguably second best player on an admittedly bad team, providing both efficient scoring and defense.

He stretched the floor offensively averaging 5.5 three point attempts a game while making nearly 40-percent. Defensively, Peterson had the versatility to guard all types of wing defenders and often was tasked with opposing teams number one option.

Basketball reference lists Peterson as the shooting guard of the 05-06 team. However, in today’s NBA, Peterson is a small forward and perhaps even a power forward at times. His defensive flexibility will be very important for this team as we continue to build out a lineup of versatile wing defenders.
