Toronto Raptors: Kawhi Leonard season preview
How Leonard fits in
With the departure of a franchise player DeMar DeRozan, Raptors management will look towards Leonard to fill the void.
Leonard having been leaned upon to do just about everything for the Spurs the past few years will be accustomed to the weight of carrying a team. But the good news is that he won’t have to do it all by himself. The Raptors have a multitude of lineups available to roll out with no shortage of good players.
Late game situations are going to be where Leonard shines the brightest. While his 20-25 points will be a big help to the team, it’s his crunch time defense that going to stand out the most. He’s going to be facing the biggest and baddest from every team and shutting stars down late is going to be key to the Raptors success.
Raptor fans can also get excited to watch Leonard play alongside the youngins such as Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby who will be looking towards Leonard for guidance. The teaching and chemistry between those three specifically is something to look forward to.
Coming to Toronto should be a nice change of pace for Leonard as he won’t continuously be the only real option like he was in the last couple years with the Spurs.
