Strengths

Wright’s biggest strength is his perimeter defense and versatility. Wright is 6’5″, relatively quick, and an above-average athlete when contesting opponents around the rim, however, none of those skill-sets are his best attribute.

His best attribute is his defensive IQ. Wright’s intelligence and instincts allow him to make plays on help defense and in the passing lanes without losing track of his primary responsibility.

Last season, Wright averaged 1.8 steals per 36 minutes, among the best in the NBA. More importantly, he was able to do this without constantly gambling at the expense of his teammates. (Russell Westbrook I am looking at you).

Offensively, Wright’s best skill-set somewhat depends on the role he is placed in. If used as a secondary playmaker, like he will be for the most part this season, his biggest strength is his passing.

Wright averaged five assists per game last season in a bench unit filled with other distributors. Despite playing primarily at shooting guard, he averaged an assist rate of 20.2-percent. His assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.56 ranked just below Kyle Lowry.

Wright does a solid job at diagnosing defenses and reading individual defenders, although, where he really excels is slicing into the lane, drawing the defense and making easy dump-downs or kick-outs to open options.

With solid offensive awareness and a knack for getting into the lane, Wright helps keep the ball moving in any offensive environment.
