Expectations for Wright this season

As perhaps the best shooting guard on the roster, the Toronto Raptors will be leaning on Delon Wright heavily this season. He’ll be expected to play approximately 20 minutes per night at shooting guard, a couple of minutes at point guard, and serve as the team’s emergency backup point guard if (knock on wood) Lowry or VanVleet miss significant time due to injury.

Wright should be up to the task. He’s been impressive in his first three seasons in the league and has made a significant improvement each season.

Next year he will be attempting to catapult into the top-100 range. That’s a difficult step. Many players often stall out as rotation quality players early in their career without ever finding themselves in the top half of league starters.

If Wright can improve his jump-shot to above league average or develop one elite skill-set offensively, he’ll make that jump.

With more pressure than ever, Toronto can look to expect nine points, 3.5 assists, and about one steal per game, with an average of 24 minutes a night.

When discussing the new-look Raptors, it’s easy to forget about a familiar face like Delon Wright. But with so many changes to the roster and Nick Nurse’s new style, he will be more important than ever.
