Point guard play

The Toronto Raptors are talented at multiple positions, but no position combines top-end talent and depth like point guard.

Toronto has three point guards who could start on approximately a third of NBA teams.

HoopsHabit ranks Dennis Smith Jr. as the 20th best point guard in the NBA. After a rookie season that showed more flashes than production, it’s hard to argue he’s a better player than Delon Wright currently.

And he’s the worst of the bunch.

The Raptors’ backup point guard, Fred VanVleet, was in the running for Sixth Man of the Year.  Kyle Lowry, the team’s starter, has made four straight all-star games.

Over the course of 48 minutes, it’s hard to find a team that receives more production from the point guard position. Non-coincidentally, it’s only the Raptors three biggest competitors (HOU, GSW, BOS), which can match Toronto in terms of point guard talent.

A team’s strengths and weaknesses are never static. Over the course of a full season, individual aspects of a team’s game experience the same ebbs and flows a team does as a whole. Still, with the roster the Raptors were given, these five areas should be a consistent high-point for the Raptors throughout the year.
