Toronto Raptors: Five reasons Toronto is a title contender
The potential for an improved bench
Last season, the Toronto Raptors fielded one of the most fearsome bench units across the league. This year the bench mob should be improved and even more effective.
Under Casey, the bench unit remained relatively constant. Led by Fred VanVleet, this bench mob proved they were capable of performing effectively no matter the situation. They could close gaps, extend leads, or stand their ground against other teams starting lineups.
This season, the bench unit will vary on a nightly basis but expect the bench to remain highly productive. The Toronto Raptors have a roster that is legitimately 12 players deep, with a mix of young improving players and experienced veterans.
Young players such as Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, Delon Wright and OG Anunoby will all take steps forward this season. Pascal Siakam has already shown that he can perform to high levels as a starter, as well as being able to provide a tremendous spark off the bench.
This Raptors squad is arguably the deepest the franchise has ever fielded, and with the improving young core, and the retention of players such as Fred VanVleet, it is hard to argue that the Toronto Raptors’ bench will be nothing but exceptional.
It is still early in the season, but expect the Raptors bench to be among the best in the league, if not the best in the league.
With added depth, an improved starting lineup, and player growth, the Toronto Raptors could be on the brink of their best season in franchise history with a chance to make their first-ever finals appearance. This team can be exceptional, but only time will tell.
