Every Sunday we bring you the Toronto Raptors Player of the Week. This week’s award goes to Pascal Siakam who has been impressive the past four games.

Kawhi Leonard may have grabbed all the attention early this season, but Pascal Siakam has won the hearts of Toronto Raptors’ fans with his improved play. That improved play was on display last week as he led Toronto to a 3-1 record including hitting the game-winning shot against Phoenix last Thursday.

The Raptors weren’t quite as flawless as they were last week (3-0) and they endured some close games against teams that weren’t that good. Still, they won those games and the frontrunner for the Most Improved Player was a catalyst for them.

Pascal Siakam’s week.

Siakam, affectionately nicknamed “pskills” averaged 14.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, four rebounds, and 1.5 steals in four games last week. He started off the week by stuffing the stat sheet in a double-overtime victory over the Washington Wizards: 24 points, 19 boards, three steals, and two blocks.

Against Phoenix, Siakam had another double-double with ten points and 12 boards with a couple of steals and blocks and just one turnover. Most notably, Siakam came up clutch for Toronto by driving into the lane and scoring a layup just as time expired.

The Raptors were without Kawhi Leonard for this game and while Siakam didn’t exactly dominate the game, he came up big when it mattered.

To close out the week, Siakam scored 17 points and chipped in eight boards against the Grizzlies with no turnovers.

Siakam’s low-point came with the Raptors’ only loss of the week against the Boston Celtics, where he was held to just six points. This was the first time in 2019 he failed to score in double digits.

But despite his “off nights”, Siakam manages to stay efficient and not hurt the team. Last week, he shot the ball over 50% for all four games and only averaged two turnovers.

If Siakam needs to improve on anything, it’s his three-point shooting. He hasn’t hit a three in his last seven games and went 0-for-6 last week.

Who missed the cut

If it wasn’t for Siak’s game-winning layup, Danny Green would’ve been this Raptors’ Player of the Week.

The 31-year-old continues to have a career resurgence in Toronto and is coming off his strongest week. In four games, Green averaged 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1 block, and just 0.8 turnovers.

Most impressively, Green matched his career-high scoring 24 points and hitting eight threes in Saturday’s victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Green was En Fuego from deep shooting 48.3 percent (15-of-31).

Kawhi Leonard also had a monstrous performance against Washington last Sunday with 41 points, 11 boards, three steals, and two blocks. He followed that up with a 33-point game against Boston.

Unfortunately, he only played two games for the week but should be fully rested to begin this coming one.
