Nets receive: Greg Monroe, 2021 second rounder
Raptors receive: Cash considerations
Hopefully, the impact of this deal is relatively easy to see. Toronto opens up a roster spot by sending Greg Monroe and a pick to the Nets for a bag of cash. Monroe was unquestionably bad while JV was out, but was his absence worth a second round pick?
Hawks receive: Jabari Bird, Cash considerations
Celtics receive: 2020 second rounder.
Jabari Bird has off-the-court issues which ensured he wouldn’t play a game for the Celtics, and this trade was little more than a formality. Boston officially opened up a roster spot and didn’t have to give up any assets to do so.
Pistons receive: Thon Maker
Bucks receive: Nikola Mirotic
Pelicans receive: Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson, four second rounders
Other than the Tobias Harris trade, no deal impacts the Raptors more than this one. The best team in the Eastern Conference just got another weapon, a 6’10” sharpshooter who has a more well-rounded game than he is ever given credit for.
Mirotic will likely serve as a sixth man for the Bucks, but offers protection late in games if Lopez is unable to stay on the court. The Milwaukee Bucks were for real before this trade. Now, they become even scarier.
Hawks receive: Shelvin Mack
Grizzlies receive: Tyler Dorsey
Like so many other deals, this opened up a potential buyout candidate. However, like Ellington, Mack opted for minutes rather than championship contention. Mack signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets, and will also technically make them a slightly tougher opponent in the first round.
Lakers receive: Mike Muscala
Clippers receive: Michael Beasley, Ivica Zubac
Michael Beasley becomes a buyout candidate for the Raptors. The microwave scorer has shown the ability to get buckets. That’s about it.
