Projecting Marc Gasol’s role with the Toronto Raptors

With Eastern competition such as the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers adding so many new weapons it only seemed fitting that it was the Toronto Raptors turn.

It’s that time of year again folks, the NBA trade deadline has passed. The majority of us were just sitting around helplessly waiting for either Woj or Shams to tweet news about our team. This year’s trade deadline was especially tough for Toronto Raptors’ fans as the organization spent the majority of the day without any moves, all the while, fans were forced to watch competitors make move after move stocking their team.

But then, it finally happened. In what’s becoming classic Raptors fashion, the team opted to make the biggest splash of the day when they traded for Memphis Grizzlies star Marc Gasol. The trade involves Jonas Valanciunas, C.J. Miles, Delon Wright and a Raptors 2024 second round pick for Gasol.

The power moves made by the Bucks and 76ers truly forced the Raptors hand, the Raptors decided to make a big splash. The trade throws a slight wrench into the lineup for the Raptors that will be further explored later on in the article. But fans should be enthused as this trade ensures that the Raptors will be able to can keep pace with the top teams.

It’s uncertain if Gasol will move the needle past the Warriors. But, this deal signifies that the Raptors are all in. It’s do-or-die at this point and the Raptors are ready to risk it all.
