March 8 – Toronto Raptors at New Orleans Pelicans

Matchup Rating: 3/5

This is one of those games that are notable mainly for its narratives. At one point in the season, the Raptors were rumoured to be one of the teams offering for Davis. Before snagging Gasol, Toronto was allegedly in play to make a blockbuster deal for The Brow.

Of course, it never materialized. Fans, players, media members, and league officials alike were confounded by what was going on with the Pelicans.

Davis is barely playing with the Pelicans only averaging 20ish minutes per game. New Orleans is at least six games away from the final playoff spot and at 27-35, they’re stuck in that unenviable range that is too good to tank but too bad to contend.

When the Raptors visit the Smoothie King Center, they will be playing a Pelicans team that is a shell of itself. Davis will put up his stats, but he and the Pels are playing for nothing so this shouldn’t be a difficult road game for Toronto.

But let’s just imagine an alternate universe right now (where this game is #1 in this rankings list).

Toronto rolls into the Smoothie King Center. Davis returns to New Orleans to a chorus of boos. He and the Raptors face the new look Pelicans featuring half the Raptors’ rotation: Pascal Siakam, Jonas Valanciunas, OG Anunoby, Delon Wright, and C.J. Miles.

Back to the real world and Toronto should have this in the bag as they mow down the distraught Pelicans.
