The Retirement

Bosh would fail his physical during the 2016 offseason and was barred from training camp. Though he remained optimistic and didn’t publicly state his retirement, the team made it official that they believed Bosh’s playing days are over.

The abrupt end to Bosh’s career was heartbreaking. At just 32-years-old and at the prime of his career, Bosh had to step away from the game. Even more tragic is how he wasn’t playing with the team when the Raptors made it the furthest in its franchise history.

Even without Bosh, the Raptors would finish as a top team in both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons although both would end in the same fashion as the last two: defeats at the hands of James and the Cavaliers.

Following the 2018 season, the Raptors announced they would be retiring Bosh’s jersey following season’s end.

Bosh would retire as the franchise leader in games played, points, and rebounds. His decision to stay in town contrasting with James’s back in 2010 would be his highwater mark. Although critics would point to his lack of playoff victories and the team’s continued success in his absence, Bosh will go down as one of the all-time great Raptors if not the greatest.
