Jodie Meeks

When the team signed Jodie Meeks fans let out a collective sigh of relief. The 31-year old had previously been acclaimed as a “Raptor Killer.” Toronto signed Meeks for the remainder of the season on March 25th.

At the time of his signing, the financial details of his contract were not released. However, Basketball Reference lists him earning $196,724 dollars. For a guy earning the minimum, Meeks plays his heart out every chance he gets.

Adding him to the rotation was a safe signing. The 11-year veteran has played in over 500 regular season games and over 20 playoff games.

In eight regular season games with the Raptors, Meeks averaged 6.4 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. During the postseason, Meeks was reduced to minor minutes against the Orlando Magic before being subdued for the rest of the postseason, playing exclusively in garbage time.

When a team goes on a deep playoff run they need as many players like Meeks as possible. Players who, despite their lack of minutes, will give 110 percent every time they touch the floor. His veteran knowledge is also extremely valuable for a younger team.

It remains to be seen if the Toronto Raptors will re-sign Meeks this summer. However, he played a small yet important part of Toronto’s postseason run. The 31-year olds three-point shooting and defensive savviness will make him valuable to any team this upcoming summer.
