The ultimate Toronto Raptors fan favourite bracket: Round of 8
(2) Morris Peterson vs. (3) Jamario Moon
How we got here:
Peterson 80% vs Oakley 20%
What a whooping. Charles Oakley is known for his defensive mindset and attitude, but he could not keep Mo-Pete from running up the score in this one.
It makes sense, as great as Oak was, he came to the Toronto Raptors when he was approximately 45 years old. He was a plodding power forward and really not that good anymore.
Morris Peterson, however, was a key part of several Raptors playoff runs. He was a young contributor for the Vince Carter teams and grizzled veteran for the Chris Bosh teams. He has more experience, more production, and (to be frank) more likeability than Oakley.
Moon 66% vs Evans 34%
This matchup wasn’t quite as clear-cut, at least not early on. Jamario Moon has a deep place within Raptors fans hearts, but Reggie Evans was loved as well.
Ultimately, it’s too hard to pass on Moon’s story. A seven-year D-League veteran, Moon fought his way into the NBA. Almost everyone in the NBA has to work incredibly hard to make it, but fighting at a D-League salary and getting on old busses for seven years is a different level of commitment.
Reggie Evans was great on the court, but he doesn’t have the personal attachment of Moon.
Their matchup
Peterson vs Moon
Peterson came into this tournament as a heavy favorite, and after watching him mop the floor with Oakley, he’s looking even more unbeatable. His matchup against Moon is looking pretty close to an open-and-shut case.
Peterson was better, played longer, and has many more memorable moments than Moon. He played on multiple playoff teams and carried the Raptors through some dark times.
If you’re a sucker for a heart-warming story or for high-flying athleticism than maybe you give Moon the individual nod. However, it’s hard to picture the entire fanbase going that way. You can never be certain in a somewhat subjective poll, but it would be shocking if Peterson doesn’t win this one.
