5. vs New Orleans Pelicans – October 22

This game falls onto the list for many reasons. Some obvious, some not so obvious.

First of all, the glaringly obvious. It’s opening night and as the reigning champions of the NBA, the Raptors will have the ceremonial ring giving, which will prove to be a momentous occasion. It’ll also be the first time in franchise history that the Raptors will be a part of the opening night proceedings.

One will hope that it sets the tone for the start of the season, with the Raptors getting out to a winning start against a young, and very interesting New Orleans Pelicans team. It’ll be the first NBA test for number one overall pick, Zion Williamson, and he could well be matching up with Pascal Siakam – the winner of last years Most Improved Player award.

That could well prove to be an explosive dual, with both forwards offering a great deal of athleticism. Elsewhere on the court, a trio of former Lakers will make their league debuts with the Pelicans. Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart were a driving force of assets that pushed the Anthony Davis deal over the line.

Davis gets his dream move to the Los Angeles Lakers, while Ball, Hart, and Ingram get a fresh start outside of the franchise that failed, in part, to provide them with a modicum on consistency. Everyone here is a winner, hopefully.

For the Raptors, it’ll be the first chance to get a look at new signings like Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Stanley Johnson, while also welcoming the return of OG Anunoby to the starting line-up.

Two teams on new paths, and one very good game of basketball. Hopefully.
