The Toronto Raptors are Canada’s team! But what if they had a WNBA partner? We present our proposal for a Canadian WNBA team.

At about this same time last year, we talked about launching a WNBA team in Toronto. The idea was received well, and since that time, social media has continued to move forward the idea of putting a franchise in Toronto/Canada.

Basketball is so hot right now. Even with Kawhi gone and the Raptors likely to regress back to their playoff fodder, everyone in the country is still basking in the afterglow. You get folk from nowhere, Canada suddenly interested in “We The North” swag.

The WNBA has found a niche in smaller markets like Indiana and Minnesota. Canada has several locations that would serve as a more natural landing spot. In fact, expanding north of the border could be an important moment in the league’s history.

Either through expansion or relocation, they could be coming up to give Canada chance. After all, they want a piece of that national audience. Everyone just saw the die-hard support the Canadians had for the Raptors.

Any team the WNBA puts in Canada will garner support on a national level. You can put it in Yellowknife and they would have fans (but please, don’t.)

We play WNBA gods for a brief second here and envision a WNBA team coming to Canada. What will they look like? Who will play for them? Where will we put them?

So many questions, so little time! Let’s get on with this.
