Potential rivalries

The Vancouver Rain usually play nice and have even nicer fans. They don’t want any trouble. But the neighbours south of the border have other plans. The stacked teams of the Western Conference lick their chops.

The Seattle Storm, Minnesota Lynx, and Los Angeles Sparks, ten championships between them, are out to get the new kids on the block.

Seattle will have that border rivalry not too unlike the Leafs and the Sabres in the NHL or the Blue Jays when they play in Seattle.

The Lynx are just coming from a dynasty and are an ageing team but are still going to prey on weaker teams. Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles could big sister the Rain like what Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett did to the young Raptors.

And the Sparks? As the sister team to the Lakers, they were just made to be hated. Candace Parker is a superstar and will beast on the Rain and they will get plenty of media attention for it. Think about Kobe Bryant or LeBron James destroying Toronto. Yep.

Rivalries should be a good thing, even if the Rain ends up on the losing end in many nights to start. It will give them more visibility.
