Patrick McCaw

"“I deserve this s***, I deserve this s***, I deserve this s*** / That’s all I got to say, at the top is where I stay” (The Winner)"

The Winner is a little-known song, relatively speaking, by a very famous and successful artist in Drake. Patrick McCaw is a little-known player, relatively speaking, who’s played for very famous and successful teams in the Warriors (2016-2018) and Raptors (2018-2019).

McCaw is so unknown, in fact, that a reporter in Las Vegas embarrassingly mixed up Stanley Johnson with him. McCaw played in just 26 regular-season and 11 playoff games for the Raptors last year, never consistently staying a part of the team’s rotation.

Nevertheless, every member of a championship team deserves the ring that they get; McCaw contributed to three straight titles, two with the Warriors and then last season with the Raptors. Who could forget his crucial three-pointer to beat the shot clock buzzer late in Game 1 of the 2019 Finals?

He’s the first player to three-peat since Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant (among others) with the 2000-2002 Lakers. McCaw stays at the top of the league – he’s finished each of his three NBA seasons with a title – which was all the more reason for the Raptors to re-sign him this offseason. (He’s also a solid wing defender and at just 23 years old, he could still develop into a three-and-D rotation player.)
