Three-Point Contest

Fred VanVleet

In short, Fred VanVleet is probably the best volume three-point shooter on the team, save for Matt Thomas. While, yes, maybe Thomas might well have the higher percentage come February, the size of his impact for the Raptors remains unknown.

For that reason, VanVleet will likely option to represent the Toronto Raptors in the three-point contest. The past four years have seen Kyle Lowry represent the Raptors three times between 2016 and 2018, with Danny Green taking on that role last season.

Now, it could well be Fred VanVleet’s time to shine in the Three-Point Contest. During his short three-year career, VanVleet has shot 39-percent from three on just over three attempts per game. This season will likely be the biggest of his career to date. VanVleet started 28 games last season and put up his best points average of his career.

He routinely proved himself to be one of the best back-ups in the NBA, and went further in the NBA Finals, putting forth a defensive clinic against Steph Curry – the greatest shooter of all-time. His star will likely only grow this season as he steps up as one of the team’s most important players.

The Three-Point Contest could yet again house another Raptors participant, making it five years in a row. Could VanVleet go the distance and be the first to win it?
