After coming off a championship run, the Toronto Raptors will be experimenting with a new roster. Who will have the most to prove with the NBA season just around the corner?
After coming off a championship run, the Toronto Raptors will make the transition to more of a youth movement with the exception of Marc Gasol, Kyle Lowry, and Serge Ibaka. Even with a more inexperienced team compared to last year, the Raptors are in a great position to have at least one of their young players develop into a strong contributor.
Outside of the rookies, many of these young players will be trying to secure a spot on the team whether it be a starting role or just to make the final roster. There are a lot of questions regarding how the rotation should work and who fits where in certain lineups. Some of these questions Nick Nurse already has the answers to. The questions will be figured out sooner or later as the preseason progresses.
This offseason, the Raptors brought in a lot of people in similar situations. Some of these players who were signed through free agency have bounced around the league trying to find a good fit with Toronto or at the very least boost their value to earn a respectable contract next year.
This team consists of many defensive-minded wings, a starting shooting guard spot that is up for grabs, and a traditional third-string point guard role that is open. One of the biggest differences between last year’s team and the current roster is the amount of opportunity available for the younger players this year. They will get many chances to prove themselves for an increase in minutes this season.
On a roster with a number of roles up for grabs, who has the most to prove heading into 2019 training camp?
