Stanley Johnson

Similar to Cameron Payne, Stanley Johnson is a lottery pick from 2015 trying to work his way not just into a role this year, but into a role moving forward. Unlike Payne, Stanley Johnson’s contract is fully guaranteed so he has security on the roster. However, he’s going to need to develop some type of consistent offensive game to get good minutes on any roster.

Stanley Johnson is known as a defender first but has the strength and size to be a great finisher at the rim. Despite this, his offense would usually revolve around settling for jump shots despite not being a very good jump shooter. His form is not terrible and it isn’t like he’s incapable of making these shots at all, so it could be something that he works with the Raptors coaching staff throughout the season.

Although it’s hard to overlook his skill as a very good defender, it’s not hard to find great wing defenders on this team. Anunoby, Siakam, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson can all fill that void and each of them carries another trait on offense that keeps them on the floor. Stanley Johnson should look to play to his strengths as a slasher while working on his jump shot in practice. If the Raptors can’t keep him on the floor for offensive purposes, it’s hard to find where he can get minutes.
