Last year: Kawhi Leonard
We are now firmly in the era of Pascal Siakam as the Raptors leading man. Siakam signed a four-year extension on Saturday afternoon, cementing his place as the Raptors franchise piece. Kawhi Leonard was the leading man for the Toronto Raptors in his first and only season, averaging 26.6 points per game, with Siakam following in second with 16.9 points per game.
This season, Siakam is the only choice to lead the Raptors in points per game. He’s the primary option, a player with an incredibly unique skill set, and in the process of adopting a consistent jump shot. If last season was his breakout year, this year is the time for him to put his stamp on the league.
If the Raptors want to be successful, then it’s going to need to happen. Kyle Lowry can’t carry that much of a scoring load, and Siakam is, by far, the best scorer on the team. If he adds that midrange jumper to round out his game, suddenly he can score all over the court.
The scoring will most likely come from all over the place, though. The Raptors will be playing a fluid style of basketball, using their quick passing to get open looks for teammates – it’s just that when they need a bucket they’ll go to Siakam.
Winner: Pascal Siakam
The Raptors didn’t pay Siakam all of that sweet cash for nothing. He’ll continue to improve his game this season and help the Raptors defend their title in the process.
