Toronto Raptors: Stock Take, plus Terence Davis turns it around
Terence Davis
As always, any time someone comes up with a career-night, you can probably expect them to be leading the line this week. In all honesty, it could have and maybe should have been Serge Ibaka, but this Terence Davis scenario is absolute gold and deserves to be in the top spot.
Davis, against, the Nets, was pretty poor. He shot 3-of-5 from the field for seven points, but four first-half turnovers really killed the Raptors as they fell behind in Brooklyn. His minutes in the second half were limited, but he did perform a touch better. Nothing worth shouting about though.
Against the Blazers, Davis truly felt the brunt of his past game performance as he only featured in eight minutes of action, going scoreless from the field and finishing with a -3 on the court. Nick Nurse publicly called him out, saying he hadn’t been playing well, and while the Raptors could have used Davis against the Blazers, he wasn’t necessarily wrong.
The second night of the back-to-back against the Charlotte Hornets saw Davis offered a chance of redemption — he was plunged into the starting lineup. Would he be able to step up when the Raptors needed him?
You know the answer. He most certainly was.
Davis put forward a career-high 23 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists as the Raptors came from behind to force overtime against the Hornets before winning 112-110. He was emphatic for the Raptors, coming up with decisive rebounds when Ibaka started to fatigue, scoring a team-high in points, attacking the rim and knocking down four threes, Davis was able to remind everyone why he is so talented and composed, even as a rookie.
His week was turned on its head entirely, and it would be rude not to have him here. So here he is.
VERDICT: STOCK UP
The Raptors always seem to have guys who are ready to step up and compete, a highly sought after trait, especially when dealing with a myriad of injuries. Once again, the depth reigns supreme.
