Toronto Raptors: Top five performances from a disappointing week 12
4. Kyle Lowry
Opponent: San Antonio Spurs
Stat line: 16 points, 3 rebounds, 15 assists, 2 steals
Going into this game, Kyle Lowry was not having a great week. His shooting had been off and it really affected the Raptors negatively the last two games. This one was especially emotional for Lowry as he was facing off against his best friend and former teammate DeMar DeRozan. He knew he needed to deliver if the Raptors were to win this one.
Lowry did get off to a slow start in this one as his shot yet again was not falling. He finished the first with two points and two assists as the Raptors were up by seven points at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was not much different for Lowry in terms of his scoring output as he only scored three points, however, he continued to set up his teammates for good looks. He dished out four assists in the quarter to go along with two rebounds as the Raptors had all the momentum heading into halftime up eight.
The playmaking continued for Lowry as he was able to find his teammates for great looks consistently and the team was responding by making their shots. Lowry ended the third quarter with five points and dished out another five assists as the Raptors were up 13 heading into the final quarter. Unfortunately, the Raptors absolutely imploded in the fourth. Lowry’s shot was still off but he continued to play make for his team. He finished the final frame with six points, one rebound, and five more assists, but it wasn’t enough as the Raptors blew a 13 point lead and lost by one point.
Lowry continues to be the heart and soul of this Raptors squad but he does need to hit his jumpers consistently for the Raptors to have a chance at the title. This week, in general, was tough for the Raptors so expect a bounce-back week from Lowry.
