Starters Grades

C++. Shot 27 percent from the field, missed on five of five from distance, yet Kyle Lowry fell just three assists shy of his sixth double-double of the season. No. 7 finished with 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds in 29 minutes — overall, it was a modest follow-up to his performance in Minnesota. Something felt wrong about giving 27 percent from the field a “B”…. Point Guard. Toronto Raptors. KYLE LOWRY

B+. Playing in game no. 2 since missing five with a bummed hamstring, VanVleet finished with 20 points and has scored a total of 49 in two games. The hard-nosed guard appears no worse for wear after some unplanned time off. Struggled from the field against the Hawks (36 percent, 1-4 from 3PT) like most of his teammates, but VanVleet’s 11 made free throws were most on the Raptors and second only to Hawks guard Trae Young who converted 18 of 21 from the charity stripe.. Shooting Guard. Toronto Raptors. FRED VANVLEET

B-. A quiet (on brand) day at the office for Anunoby ended with four points and four rebounds across 20 minutes of action. It’s worth noting, in the absence of sexy offensive stats, the small forward’s effectiveness on the offensive glass, as three of four rebounds came off misses by teammates. Did an excellent job guarding Trae Young when Nick Nurse threw his beloved box-and-one defence at the fearless guard late in the game. Anunoby’s offence is cyclical (it comes and it goes), but it’s on defence where the youngster shines night in and night out.. Small Forward. Toronto Raptors. OG ANUNOBY

B. Siakam has now failed to crack 20 points in four of five games since his return from groin discomfort. Against the Hawks, he finished with 18 points, nine coming in the opening quarter, to go along with six rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Missed four attempts from three and is shooting 23.5 percent from beyond the arc over his last five contests.. Power Forward. Toronto Raptors. PASCAL SIAKAM

B. Gasol has attempted 10 or more shots only three times this season. On Monday, he scored 14 points on eight attempts but struggled from the free-throw line, uncharacteristically. Finished with a minus net rating (-10) for only the seventh time and found himself out of position on defence on more than one occasion, at times thrown off by a youthful and energetic Hawks squad. Despite missing time already this season, Gasol appears to be in need of a break and will soon get his wish with the arrival of All-Star Weekend.. Center. Toronto Raptors. MARC GASOL
