The Toronto Raptors’ COVID-19 test results came back negative on Friday afternoon, but one result is still pending. For now, the news is good.

After Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert and guard Donovan Mitchell both tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, the NBA took the conscious decision to suspend the 2019-20 season for precautionary measures. Following on from that, the Toronto Raptors elected to do testing on everyone who was present when they defeated the Jazz on Monday in Utah.

The testing took place on Wednesday and the results were released on Friday afternoon. For now, the news remains promising. The results came back negative for the majority of the team, while it was announced that they were still awaiting the results of one individual. However, the identity of that person was not revealed.

Even then, all signs point towards the Raptors being out of the woods which is great news. Still, a spokesman for the team announced that those who were asked to isolate by Toronto Public Health will continue to do so.

To speculate on anything else at all would be unjust and dangerous, which is something we should all avoid doing. For now, we only know what we know – and that information comes directly from the team.

The league is currently suspended for 30 days and, after which time, they will assess what should happen next. As disappointing as the news is for everyone, the league took the right approach. Health and safety must come first. Always.

Until then, all we can do is wait.
