With the NBA season in jeopardy, a later return to the season looks likely. Which Toronto Raptors players’ would benefit the most from an extended rest?

It feels like there has been no basketball for a thousand days. The last time we saw the Toronto Raptors play was last Monday against the Utah Jazz, a game which they won. Since then, the NBA has come to a standstill.

The league is hoping for a return to basketball sooner rather than later, but these are unprecedented times. Any projection for a return is based on hope, more than anything. Still, basketball gives us all a reason to be optimistic.

As a whole, the season was left with the Raptors in a brilliant situation. The reigning champions were second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 46-18 and had just won four straight games, as well as having locked up a spot in the playoffs. Things were going great, as you’d expect.

Pascal Siakam was stepping into his role as the face of the franchise, while Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol, Fred VanVleet, and a plethora of other stars were stepping up as the Raptors looked to pursue back-to-back NBA titles in a very challenging landscape.

The future of the season remains in doubt, but should the league return to action in the next few months, expect the Raptors to be roaring back into action and primed to defend their crown. Should that be the case, they’ll hopefully be fully healthy.

Injuries have been a struggle for the Raptors this season and that only makes their overall record more incredible. Maybe it’s time to try to look at the suspension of the league from a positive angle. It’s difficult, for sure, but we can only try.

Who would benefit the most from an extended rest, then?
