Three unanswered questions from the Toronto Raptors’ season
Who would they face in the playoffs?
With just over 21-percent of the Raptors schedule remaining, they sat in the second seed with a record of 46-18, but there was everything still to play for. Well, maybe not everything – the Milwaukee Bucks were 6.5 games ahead of the Raptors and were on course for another 60-win season until the league was halted.
Other than that, the Raptors were only three games ahead of the Boston Celtics but still had a number of enticing matchups left on the docket. Between then and the end of the season, anything could have happened – and that goes for the entirety of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
With that being said, it’s likely that the eight teams in the playoff picture would have remained as they are. The Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic sat in the seventh and eighth seeds and were a clear five and a half games ahead of the Washington Wizards in ninth.
What wasn’t decided, though, was the order in which the teams would wind up – that was far from a given. The gap between the fourth and sixth seeds was only two games, with the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and Philadelphia 76ers all locked into a fight for the best seed possible.
Whoever would wind up in the sixth seed would (probably) take on the Boston Celtics, while the fourth and fifth seed would battle in an even matchup. The Bucks would take on either the Nets or Magic and the Raptors would take on the odd team out from that. After that, they could be set for a long-awaited matchup against the Boston Celtics – but the Celtics could easily wind up in a tough matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
Nothing was set in stone in the Eastern Conference, but it was clear that there could be an abundance of mouth-watering matchups. For now, hopefully, we don’t know what they are. Hopefully, we will.
