At my number one and final spot for this list of important free agents the Toronto Raptors need to lock up, I have Fred VanVleet. Just like Norman Powell and OG Anunoby, what a season Fred VanVleet had this year. Him along the other two had such a jump in their productivity from seasons prior and I am confident to say they’ll continue that into the playoffs this year.

VanVleet who is more than likely the Toronto Raptors future point guard once Kyle Lowry either leaves Toronto or retires from the NBA, he’ll need to get locked up on a contract as soon as possible. Being 26 years old and just played in his third full year in the league there is more to come from this player. He has taken a giant step not just in his productivity like I said, but in a leadership role as well, winning the championship last year really mentally and physically made a lot of these players better.

Currently, VanVleet is on the last year of his two year contract he signed back in July of 2018, worth a total of $18M. With Fred taking the next steps in his career, already winning a championship and being a key piece to that championship run, he should be in store of getting a decent pay raise in my opinion.

Now no, I don’t think Fred VanVleet should get a pay raise that will have him getting a max contract or even close to a max contract, however, I do believe and think his next contract should see him making around $15-17M. I think that’s reasonable for the Toronto Raptors cap situation and for Fred VanVleet himself. (Stats from Basketball-Reference.com)

Who do you think the Toronto Raptors should prioritize first and re-sign this offseason? Is it Hollis-Jefferson, Ibaka, or even VanVleet? Or is it someone else?
