According to Shams Charania; the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Detroit Pistons are expected to be potential suitors for Fred VanVleet outside of the Toronto Raptors in the upcoming free agency period.

This really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but Toronto Raptors‘ guard, Fred VanVleet, is going to be a hot commodity this offseason. It was bound to happen eventually that we were going to start hearing rumors about what teams were going to make a push for Steady Freddy and today we heard the first 3 that were seen as suitors and will attempt to pursue the young point guard.

New York Knicks

Don’t do it Fred! The Dumpster fire that is the Knicks organization has been openly looking to sign and/or trade for a star for a few years now and would understandably look at VanVleet as an invaluable piece in rebuilding their organization back to greatness. Freddy would immediately slide into the starting point guard role beside RJ Barrett at shooting guard, which to be honest could be a pretty solid young backcourt.

Phoenix Suns

If you think Freddy and RJ would be a solid backcourt imagine how lethal one with Steady Freddy and Devin Booker would be. This would have to be an enticing team for VanVleet after seeing their 8-0 performance in the Bubble and all the young pieces that would surround him. He also wouldn’t have to carry the load entirely at PG with Ricky Rubio being a guy he could split the time with.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons would have a very different pitch to Freddy in the sense they can offer a sense of familiarity in head coach Dwane Casey. Casey was there when the Raptors signed him to their Summer League team and then eventually earned a spot on the roster. He was certainly a key cog in VanVleet’s development to the offensive/defensive stud he is today. Steady Freddy could also further develop and learn skills from one of the best to ever play the position in Derrick Rose.
