DeMar DeRozan

It’s unclear whether DeMar DeRozan has ever truly forgiven Ujiri for trading him to the Spurs after promising him he wouldn’t be moved. If the two are able to find a mutual understanding of the business side of the decision, reuniting the pair could be great for the franchise.

DeRozan is still an excellent player and has made himself a part of the fabric that is the Raptors. The swingman played nine seasons for the Raps and in that time put himself at or near the top of every statistical category of the organization. He has even played more games and scored more points than any other Raptors player in history.

Playing in San Antonio, coach Gregg Popovich allowed DeRozan to ignore his critics and take the shot he felt most comfortable with, the mid-range two-ball. This allowed him to post his highest field-goal percentage of his career, 0.531.

Now 31 years old, DeRozan will be able to choose his own path. There were rumours when he was last a free agent that he’d want to return home and play in Los Angeles. With the way the two teams are constructed in that city, he’d have to take a giant pay cut in order to fit onto one of those rosters. With that not likely to happen, there is a path toward a reunion with the Raptors.
